So….our cruise is coming in 20 days…a little less than 3 weeks.  We started planning this six months ago. I had a plan. Actually, I had several plans. At this point, my plan is to…make peace with myself over my lack of follow-through with my plans. If not, I will spend the entire cruise hiding in my cabin…berating myself for not being thinner, darker Zipline, Here I Come!and more organized. This would not be fun for my husband…or for me and would get in the way of my parasailing, ziplining and underground cavern exploring.  For fun, however, here was my list from six months ago.

1 – Lose 20 pounds. Actually, I may have achieved this one depending on how you look at it. I lost five pounds at least four times. It may have actually been five. My post-menopausal body is apparently quite frightened of a famine. Anything over five pounds and my metabolism would go on strike until the kidnapped five pounds was returned…with a few friends. So…six months after setting the goal, I am five pounds heavier.

2 – Get a tan. Somehow I missed summer while I was working 70 hours a week.  This is less problematic since there are products that can be sprayed, rubbed or misted on to give the appearance of tan skin. I tried this when I went to Hawaii last time. Don’t hike the Napali Coast in the rain with a spray tan…unless you want to find that the tan has left your feet and taken up residence on your socks.

3 – Pay off all bills related to the cruise….which I will do…next year.

4 – Write a book in 90 days. Ninety days have passed. I have no book. I do have a blog that has been updated almost weekly. Small victories. I’ll take it.

So…six months. I’m still a fair skinned, overweight middle-aged woman that is in debt and has no book. BUT….I’m a fair skinned, overweight middle-aged woman that is in debt and has no book that is going on a cruise and has successfully not gone over the weight requirement to zip-line and parasail. I win. I’m still happy! What lists have you been unsuccessful with this year?

I spent ten years as a single parent of three boys. I then married my wonderful husband and he was inducted into the world of boy raising. Now we get to add my peri-menopause to the mix! Its been a crazy life...one I wouldn't change a minute of....

  1. Going on a cruise sounds like a marvelous thing to have on your to-do list, Sheri. And I like the positive spin on all your other plans. I have had such long to-do lists related to my book release I’ve been overwhelmed, so count yourself lucky you didn’t get the book done. But keep it on your list because you can do it! Have a blast on the cruise! You made me laugh with your weight loss efforts and I’m glad you are embracing all of you for the trip.

  2. I love your post! It made me laugh first thing on a Monday morning, so thank you! Somehow I stumbled over your blog while looking for blogs about menopause, so I can relate. Hope to get my blog started soon…..it’s on my list of things to do. Happy Monday!

  3. You made me laugh so much about losing 20 pounds in five-pound increments four times over. I think most menopausal women can relate. Makes me want a candy bar! Have a great time on your cruise. Just remember, no one is going to care what you look like, and even if they did, you’ll never see them again!
