My vacation started today…one day early.  It’s 4:15am and I’m up. What the heck do these two sentences have to do with one another?? Well…my vacation started today and instead of lounging in bed, sleeping late, my entire household is up listening to a deranged bird serenading us from the trees outside.  My sweet husband is currently pounding away on his keyboard looking for a means to literally “Kill a Mockingbird”.

I am unaffected for the most part because there is one truth about today that makes me smile…regardless of our insane waking hour. I have full control of my schedule today and that means…I can take a nap. I love naps. I love naps more than chocolate. I love naps more than shopping. If my job wanted to truly keep me happy, they would get me a napping pod for the middle of the day.  Then I wouldn’t need vacations.

My husband is well versed in my napping addiction. He typically see’s it every time we’re driving together and I’m in the passenger seat.  If the drive is over…hmmmm…five minutes, I put the seat back. That may be a slight exaggeration…or not. The passenger seat of our car for me is like putting the babies car seat on the dryer during colic (or does anyone actually do that anymore?) The car starts…we hit the road…and I’m out. When insomnia plagues me at night, Eric jokes about driving to LA and letting me sleep the whole way. Do you see why I married this man?

So while my vacation plansThe Need to Nap have changed to a ‘staycation with the care proving option’, I’m very much at peace today.  I will be here to take Eric to his follow up on Thursday. I will be here to help him heal over the next week without trying balance my work guilt and home guilt. And best of all…I will curl up next to Eric at some point each day, forget the cares of the world, and take a nap. Life is good.

I spent ten years as a single parent of three boys. I then married my wonderful husband and he was inducted into the world of boy raising. Now we get to add my peri-menopause to the mix! Its been a crazy life...one I wouldn't change a minute of....

  1. I wish I was better at naps. I have nap envy reading this, Sheri! Today is cold and rainy and a perfect day for a nap. We haven’t started having birds awaken us at dawn yet, but that time is coming and I understand Eric’s search for ways to silence these sleep haters. haha! Enjoy your week and all the best to Eric as he recuperates.
