Ever realize that your inner voice has developed an external speaker?

Words, slip out so easy,
While I try to hold them in
My frontal lobe just lags behind
as my limbic system kicks in
 my Inner Child runs about
with Judgement at her heels
sense and reason tossed aside
as Sarcasm spins her wheels
The comment hangs out in the air
as I glance from face to face
and know that words meant for the mind
can sometimes get misplaced
but the moment comes when I see the smile
and realize the words I spoke
were in the minds of those around
a communal inside joke
so once again, I’m spared the pain
that my words truly deserve
by giving voice to not just my thoughts
but what others have observed

And….have you ever realized that your ‘Muffin Top’ has taken on a new form?

Oh Muffin top, Muffin top
when did you convert
to a fully fledged pound cake
sitting under my shirt?
I could deal with the cupcake
hiding under my top
but you're invading my waistline
in a belly co-op
When I sit, there's a beachball
between my chest and my knees
like a horrible neighbor
that spreads out as they please
so I'll ask that you mind
all the space that you take
before you've taken dimensions
of a double sheet cake
I'll be planking and crunching
to try to get some control
and a least shrink you down
to a small jelly roll
so Muffin top, Muffin top
please just stabilize
so I don't need to go shopping
and go up one more size

I spent ten years as a single parent of three boys. I then married my wonderful husband and he was inducted into the world of boy raising. Now we get to add my peri-menopause to the mix! Its been a crazy life...one I wouldn't change a minute of....
