If I Could Sew You a Poem

I wish I could knit together a poem
As easily as a scarf
The words binding to each other
In a manner that no one word
Stands on its own accord but
Holds each other together
For a fuller picture of color
Or that I could follow a pattern
And sew a poem together
Out of words made of scraps
Stacked in piles
Next to the sewing machine
And sewn together into
A beautiful quilt of meaning
Or that a poem could be painted
On a canvas
with each word building
To allow for softer and darker
Colors like shadows
That bring a deeper meaning
To the whole
But instead I grab for words
That seem to evade me and
End up with something
That barely resembles
The finished product
I envisioned

If You Could See Yourself

If you could see yourself
Through my eyes
You would see what
You’re capable of
You would see
That I believe in who you are
And who you will become
And that while
the road ahead is rocky
Each step
Will bring you closer
To who you want to be
Because deep down
I know you’re not happy
With where you are now
You were made for more
And you know there’s
something
better

Let Me Heal

Rip off the bandage
And let it bleed
Don’t hold the infection in
Excise it from my being
And empty me out
So I can heal
And let the scar run deep
So I don’t forget
